Small money, told straight.

Surveys, cashback and small online jobs can pay for a coffee, a gift or a bill now and then. We tell you what each one really pays, how the payouts work and which sites to avoid, so you can decide if it's worth your evening.

New here? Start with these three

Read them in order. Twenty minutes, and you'll know more about survey sites than most of their ads want you to.

  1. Paid Surveys: How They Work and What You Can Realistically Earn

How the money reaches you, and what an honest hour pays once screen-outs are counted.

  2. How to Spot a Survey Scam Before You Sign Up

The warning signs that a site wants your money or your data, not your opinions.

  3. Cashback Apps Explained: Are They Worth It?

The easiest money on this site: a small refund on shopping you were doing anyway.

What it really pays

The honest numbers, before you sign up anywhere. Most people land in the lower half of each range.

Research surveys on Prolific
$8–$12per hour of study time, the platform's minimum and recommended rate
Cashback on online orders
2–10%back at big US stores, from Target to Nike
Remote research interviews
$40–$150per 30 to 90 minute interview, if you're selected

Examples of typical results, not a promise of what you will earn: many people make less, invitations are irregular and time spent waiting or getting screened out isn't paid. Sources: Prolific's payment rules, TopCashback's store pages and Respondent's help center, checked on Sep 24, 2026.

How we check a site before we write about it

We don't sign up to every panel and time ourselves with a stopwatch. We do the slower, more useful part: reading what a site promises in writing and comparing it with what its users report.

Our full method
  1. We read the terms, not the ads. Payout rates, minimum cash-out and points expiry come from each site's own terms and help pages.
  2. We compare how and when it pays. PayPal, bank transfer or gift cards; days or months; fees or none.
  3. We weigh reviews we can verify. Recent, specific complaints about payouts count for more than an overall average.
  4. We date every figure. Rates change, so each range shows when it was last checked.
